Stitch Guide: SC - single crochet, DC - double crochet, HDC - half double crochet, ST - stitch, SL ST - slip stitch
NOTES: The Ch-2 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a stitch. SL ST to the 1st stitch of each round instead. The hair hole is written in the place shown in the photo. Easily move the hole up or down by putting it in a different round.
Use the I hook for Child size. Use the J hook for Adult size.
Start with Magic Ring or ch 4/join.
Round 1: CH 2, work 12 DC in loop, join.
Round 2: CH 2, 2 DC in each ST.
Round 3: CH 2, *1 DC in next ST, 2 DC in next ST* around, join.
Round 4: CH 2, *1 DC in next 2 STS, 2 DC in next ST* around, join.
Round 5: CH 2, *1 DC in next 3 STS, 2 DC in next ST* around, join.
Round 6: CH 2, DC in next ST, CH 5, skip next 5 STS, DC in each ST around, join.
Round 7: CH 2, DC in next ST, HDC in next 5 STS, DC in each ST around, join.
Round 8: CH 2, DC in each ST around, join.
Repeat Round 8 four more times for Child hat, or 5 more times for Adult hat. Fasten off & weave in all ends.
OPTIONAL IDEAS: Work 1 round of SC at end of hat. Create a shell border. Put a pom pom on top. Add a bow or flower. Make a striped hat.
