Use up some of your cotton scraps to make this easy, thick hot pad! It will also work as a dishcloth.

Materials: Size H crochet hook, 4-5 colors of WW cotton yarn (like Sugar-n-Cream)
Start w/ magic ring or ch4/join.
Round 1 - ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join w/ sl st to 1st sc.
Round 2 - ch 1, sc in same st, 2 sc in ea st around, 1 sc in last st, join. (16 sc)
Round 3 - ch 2, *(Front Loops Only) sc in next stitch, ch 2; repeat from * around, join w/ sl st to very first sc. Fasten off & change colors.
Round 4 - join w/ sc to any Back Loop from Round 3, sc in same st, *sc in next, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around, working over tail (if you want), join. (24 sc)
Round 5 - ch 1, sc in same st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around, join. (32 sc)
Round 6 - ch 2, *(Front Loops Only) sc in next stitch, ch 2; repeat from * around, join w/ sl st to very first sc. Fasten off & change colors.
Round 7 -join w/ sc to any Back Loop from Round 6, sc in same st, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around, working over tail (if you want), join. (40 sc)
Round 8 - ch 1, sc in same st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around, join. (48 sc)
Round 9 - ch 2, *(Front Loops Only) sc in next stitch, ch 2; repeat from * around, join w/ sl st to very first sc. Fasten off & change colors.
Round 10 -join w/ sc to any Back Loop from Round 9, sc in same st, *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around, working over tail (if you want), join. (56 sc)
Round 11 - ch 1, sc in same st, *sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around, join. (64 sc)
Round 12 - ch 3, *(Front Loops Only) sc in next stitch, ch 3; repeat from * around, join w/ sl st to very first sc. Fasten off & weave in ends.
You can do 3 more rounds if you like, increasing the next two by 8 sts each.
